Think of AI as your research co-pilot.

It won’t do the job for you, but it can take the pressure off repetitive tasks, help you move faster, and sharpen the work only you can do.

It frees you up to focus on the part that matters most—your critical thinking, empathy, and insight.

That’s where you excel as a researcher.

Here's how some researchers I know are already using AI across the UX workflow:

🔍 Synthesizing smarter (and faster)

AI can help you move past the overwhelm of raw data.

Try this:

• Upload your transcripts and ask AI to identify key themes, extract quotes, or summarize responses.

While human review is still essential, this gives you a strong draft to build from—saving hours during analysis.

Sample prompts:

• “Summarize the top pain points across 5 interview transcripts”
• “Cluster these quotes into themes related to user trust”

✍🏽 Drafting research materials quickly

Interview guides, surveys, screeners..these take time to write. AI helps you get that first draft done faster.

Use cases:

• “Create an interview guide to understand how Gen Z uses budgeting apps”
• “Draft a screener to recruit teachers for a usability test on an ed-tech tool”

It won’t be perfect, but it gets you past the blank doc and we all know that the hard part is getting started.

💬 Practicing stakeholder communication

Need to present insights to skeptical stakeholders? AI can help you prep by simulating pushback or critical questions.

• “What questions might a skeptical product manager ask about this finding?”
• “What could be unclear or confusing in this stakeholder summary?”

This helps you refine your narrative before you're in the room.

• “What biases might show up in this research hypothesis?”
• “How else could I frame this problem based on this research goal?”
