You might be telling your career story the wrong way 😭


Hey Reader,

Most people tell their career story the wrong way… and it’s quietly costing them opportunities. 😭

I see it all the time. Brilliant people who’ve done amazing work, but when it’s time to talk about it in an interview, their story doesn’t land. It’s not because they don’t have impact, it’s because their story hides it.

Here’s what’s really going on:
Most of us learned to tell stories using the classic story arc:

  • Beginning
  • Middle
  • Climax
  • The End

It makes sense that we bring that same structure into our interviews and career stories. But in this format, your impact—the “climax”—doesn’t show up until the end. By the time you get there, your audience might have already tuned out.

So what's the fix?

Move your impact to the front of the story - don’t bury the lead. Start with the result, the insight, or the transformation you led. Then add just enough context so people understand how you got there.


Here’s what that looks like in practice:

  • Lead with the metric or key outcome first (ex: “I helped reduce support tickets by 30% in one quarter”)

  • Follow with the key actions you took to get there

  • Wrap with a short reflection on what you learned or what it unlocked for the team

So this week, I want you to practice telling one of your favorite projects or career success stories with your impact first.
